Tai Chi class at the Swiss Garden

We are once again at The Swiss Garden on Dec 2nd – this is getting to be a really nice group and if the weather is fine then the garden is a lovely place to practice Tai Chi. There is plenty of space and a big indoor area if needed, so no need to worry about space and numbers – if you have not tried Tai Chi before then why not give yourself an early Christmas present and something new to try over the winter?

Come to play Tai Chi and stay to view the gardens or have a light lunch in the adjacent cafe.

Book here to join our session on the second.

Tai Chi class at the Swiss Garden

We are training again at the Swiss Garden on the Shuttleworth estate on the 4th November at 10.30 – this is a lovely environment where you get to do Tai Chi in beautiful gardens and then to stay and wander around afterwards if you wish. If the weather is too bad for outdoor exercises then we also have an indoor venue.

To book your place please contact them direct via their website.

We had a good time at our annual Belsey Bridge residential which this year focused on being slow and soft and calm, with a quiet mind and quiet body. Students who were each at different stages were encouraged to practice on their own with help available just yards away.  Side trips in search of “the Belsey Bridge” and to look at the adjacent Emaus charity shop were undertaken in the spirit of attentive serendipity which is so helpful in developing Tai Chi self-understanding.

On return to Shefford we have continued classes on Sunday, Monday and Thursday. It had been my hope that a Thursday class would be more convenient for some people and allow others to practice more often at no additional cost  – since a block booking offers not only a 25% discount but also the opportunity to attend two classes a week. For the past few weeks I have ended up teaching one-to-one so I can only assume that Thursday is not a good day for people? If you have any thoughts on Thursday classes please let me know so I can consider what to do.

It is rightly said that “All Tai Chi is Chi Kung but not all Chi Kung is Tai Chi” – there is so much more to Tai Chi, which makes it an excellent basis for life – so students can learn to look after themselves physically and mentally with:
Tai Chi exercises and form
Attention to Body Posture, Balance and Suppleness
Build Confidence, reduce vulnerability to falls
Loosen up, relax and move, to learn Soft Tai Chi movement
With elements from Chen Tai Chi, Alexander Technique, psychotherapy, body mechanics, visualisation, meditation, Buddhism, Taoism,

Are you over 40 or 50?

Are you wondering about getting older?

Now would be a good time to learn Tai Chi for general physical and mental health. You can prepare for the future, learn to look after yourself and enjoy a pleasant social group with outside events throughout the year.

Free first class in September – just turn up for a class at Shefford Community Hall with flat-soled trainers and warm loose clothing.

See here for classes and directions

In the past 18 months we have become used to getting our socialising and our fitness classes online, but for many of us while this has been helpful, the online option does not work well, so now that things are opening up we are working our way tentatively out of the Covid experience and back into real world social activities.

As an aid to this reclaiming of face-to-face classes Shefford Tai Chi is offering a “first lesson free” taster session during the month of July at our regular classes in the town Community Hall – just turn up during July at any of our classes and mention this offer to claim your free session. Classes are held on Monday at 2.30, Thursday at 2.30 and Sunday at 6.30 each week – see here for details

New Thursday class

It is great to be back in the Shefford Community Hall once more after a winter of sub-zero temperatures with wind and rain outdoors on Digswell field! Thursday at 2.30 is a new class based on the classes established during Covid restrictions – so now there are two daytime classes available Monday and Thursday – both at 2.30

There is no need to book – simply turn up and enjoy relaxed Tai Chi movement with a session aimed at people “over 50” – an age when it makes sense to learn the skill of balance and movement so that you have it when you need it. Falls are a great problem in later life and Tai Chi is a great way to practice not falling!

We look forward to meeting new friends wearing warm loose clothing after lunch on Thursdays.
